Welcome to myPublicHealth

myPublicHealth (myPH) is a flexible tool for agencies to customize the collection, description, management, and retrieval of critical information needed for decision support by public health professionals. Rapid access to public health documents, data sets, guidelines, learning objects, and tools is achieved by a content management portal that is integrated with specialized search boxes and tools that filter results. myPH is currently in beta testing for Washington State.

The goal of the myPublicHealth project is the design, development and evaluation of a customizable, interactive digital knowledge management system that will provide timely access to information at the point of need. The system is designed to provide more effective ways to access public health knowledge and support innovative problem-solving and strategic thinking. Content is organized in two ways:  toolkits and role-specific resources. The toolkits represent eight major public health "action areas":  animals and zoonotic diseases; data sets and statistics; emergency response; epidemiology; guidelines and evidence-based practice; research information and library resources; spatial mapping and GIS; and tutorials. Resources are collated by the public health roles of Administrative Staff, Clinical Staff, Communicable and Infectious Disease Specialist, Community Health Specialist, and Environmental Health Specialist.

Each toolkit and role-based resource page provides a collection of specialized search boxes, publications, and links to useful Web sites, including federal, state, local and international public and private agencies. The content has been selected in collaboration with local public health professionals and administrators, librarians, and public health researchers. The site has been developed to be a "one-stop" public health content management system.

myPH is actively seeking input from public health practitioners and potential users. Plans are underway to test customizable versions of the system in one or more health department settings over the coming year.

The long-term goal of myPH is an online environment where any level of public health practitioner can pose questions in "plain English" and receive direct answers to their questions. myPH is a research project of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention-funded Center of Excellence in Public Health Informatics at the University of Washington.
